CapturePoint’s Oklahoma Carbon Hub becomes the World’s First Multi-Modal Carbon Management Site with the Launch of Heimdal’s Project Bantam Direct Air Capture (DAC) Facility

Heimdal officially launched Direct Air Capture (DAC) operations on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at the Project Bantam facility built on-site at CapturePoint’s Oklahoma Carbon Hub in Osage County near Shidler, Oklahoma. Bantam is now the largest constructed DAC facility in the U.S., with the capacity to capture more than 5,000 metric tons of CO2 annually from the atmosphere when fully operational.

Heimdal's DAC process uses only well-established, off-the-shelf technologies and a novel sorbent formulation based on naturally abundant limestone (mined locally in Osage County, Oklahoma), reducing both costs and construction timelines.

"We are proud of the work we have accomplished with Bantam," said Heimdal CEO, Marcus Lima. "Our focus has always been on getting things done first, and we are thrilled to share the results of that effort faster than thought possible and more affordably than ever achieved up until now."

"The entire team at CapturePoint congratulates Heimdal on the launch of Project Bantam," added CapturePoint CEO Tracy Evans. "This project also marks a major milestone for CapturePoint's Oklahoma Carbon Hub, which is now the first operating multi-modal carbon management site in the world!”

The Oklahoma Carbon Hub multi-modal Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) site includes:

  • Industrial Carbon Capture -- up to 750,000 metric tons of CO2 are captured annually from CVR Partner’s ammonia fertilizer plant in Coffeyville, Kansas;
  • CO2 Pipeline Transportation -- a 68-mile dedicated CO2 pipeline currently connects Coffeyville, Kansas to CO2-EOR operations in Osage County, Oklahoma, with a potential extension to Cherryvale, Kansas to connect to Azure’s planned Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) bio-production plant;
  • CO2-EOR Operations – CapturePoint is currently operating over 80 Class II CO2 injection wells (and more than 45 Class II water injection wells) for tertiary oil recovery in the 23,500 acres of the historic North Burbank Unit in Osage County, Oklahoma;
  • Direct Air Capture – the captured carbon dioxide from Heimdal’s Project Bantam DAC facility will initially be utilized to support CO2-EOR operations but may in the future be permanently stored deep underground; and
  • A Class VI Permit Application for a Regional Deep Underground Carbon Storage Site – CapturePoint has filed with the EPA to develop a permanent sequestration site in Osage and/or Kay Counties, Oklahoma.
